The
Atmosphere:
This cute Mediterranean bistro has a relaxed, casual air that makes
it just the place for diners seeking a less frenetic atmosphere and
a lot more reasonable prices than found at the famously trendy
restaurants a few blocks up Collins Avenue. Though they don't offer
much of a view, the best seats are on the awning-shaded brick patio
facing the street. Cool off on a hot summer day with a mean mojito,
tart, minty and potent. Service is competent and non-attitudinal.
The Food:
Casual is one thing, sloppy is another, and the kitchen here doesn't
always seem to know the difference. Crab cakes were mushy and
fishy-tasting; Caesar salad was made exclusively with tough, chewy
outer leaves of romaine. (What happens to the crisp, tender inner
leaves?) Crème brulee was made with curdled custard and should
never have been served. Entrees, though, were much better. Steak
frites boasted good-quality, perfectly grilled meat and thin, salty,
wickedly addictive fries. Salmon with lemon dill sauce was simple,
fresh and satisfying.
